Dare to Lead™ – a courage-building workshop

Are you a courageous leader?

We have watched, globally, as Jacinda Ardern stepped up to face the recent tragedy in New Zealand – a powerful model for strong empathic leadership. At a personal level we may be inspired by the stance of Greta Thunberg – one young woman speaking truth to a broken world.

We admire those who show courageous leadership and it’s easy to believe that those women are different to us, were born with something special. We know courageous leadership when we see it even if we struggle to articulate what it actually is.

And the world needs more people to step up and to make their difference. Leadership can be a decision to recognise and to develop the potential that you see – you can lead yourself, your family or your team.

Dr Brené Brown talks to the heart of what it is to be courageous and authentic. As a research professor at the University of Houston where she holds the Huffington Foundation – Brené Brown Endowed Chair at The Graduate College of Social Work – she has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy, and most recently completed a seven-year study on courageous leadership.

It emerges that courage is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable.

Would you like to learn?.

These courage-building skills are:

Part 1 Rumbling with vulnerability
Choosing to grasp the difficult questions or conversations. Understanding our response to fear and choosing to lean in to risk, uncertainty and emotional exposure.
Part 2 Living into Our Values
Clarity on our values and exploring the gap between our desired values and our lived behaviour.
Part 3 Braving Trust
How trust is built – or destroyed – in organisations.
Part 4 Learning to Rise
Resilience, failing forward (learning whilst failing) .

The Dare to Lead™ programme focuses on developing these courage-building skills through workshops and coaching to help individuals, teams and organizations move from armoured leadership to daring leadership.

How does this courage – or the lack of it – show up? In many organisations, large and small, it is difficult to have honest and open conversations where people can say what they really mean. Getting and giving, constructive critical feedback can feel so painful that it is often avoided. It becomes easier to talk about someone behind their back than to address the difficult issues face to face. When the stated organisational values are not part of the lived experience of individuals, the levels of trust within that can hit rock bottom.

Are you ready to learn the skills that will allow brave leadership to grow – in you, your life, your organisation?

Dare to Lead™ is for you if you want to be a more courageous leader.
