It’s a couple of years since I read about the survey which revealed that for working Brits, Monday was “moanday”. According to a survey of 2000 respondents, we felt worse and moaned more on Mondays than on any other day of the week.
How about you?
When I was employed, Monday morning was always a bit more of a shock because of the extra early start that commuting brought. Took some getting used to but eventually became part of my routine.
The other thing about Mondays was planning to improvise. As a manager I never quite knew what Mondays would bring but wxperience had taught me it was likely to be significantly different to what I had planned before leaving on Friday evening. Learning to understand that this was normal and therefore I needed more flexibility and creativity to respond appropriately – without thinking I’d failed – took me a little longer to internalise.
Many of my self-employed colleagues choose to take Monday as a day away from work so to them, Monday is welcomed because it’s not a typical day back at work.
What about you?
I clearly remember when I was in my early 20s, on hearing an older colleague complain bitterly about the imposition of having to come to work, I vowed that if I ever work-up thinking “Oh no, I’ve got to go to work.” that would be the day I started to look for something better.
Life is too precious to waste it in a job you hate!
Looking at the list of the top ten moans (below) really shows that many of the complaints would be sorted if only we treated ourselves with a little more respect during the weekends – or does that simply reflect what we feel we have to do to forget about our working week?
If you’d like your working Monday mornings – and Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays – to feel better, give me a call or drop me an email soon!
